The death toll from pipeline explosion in China so 44


The number of fatalities due to the oil pipeline explosion in Qingdao City , eastern China , has risen to 44 from 35 , local authorities said on Saturday .

A total of 136 people were hospitalized longer , rescue headquarters said , Xinhua reported . He added that rescue efforts continue.

The explosion occurred at 10:30 local time on Friday , in Huangdao District in Qingdao , after oil pipeline leak from Sinopec and flows into the municipal pipe network , as workers were repairing the oil pipeline , according to a preliminary investigation .

The oil pipeline began leaking around 03.00 local time at the junction between Jalan Qinghuangdao and Roads Zhaitangdao , the agency said .

A total of 1,000 square meters of road surface covered in oil which leaked Zhaitangdao Road . Most of the oil that has seeped into the Jiaozhou Bay through rain water drain pipes , and 3,000 square meters of sea water contaminated with oil , rescue headquarters said .
