UN Climate Meeting Held without Clarity Target

UN Climate Meeting Held without Clarity Target

UN climate talks underway prolonged Friday while more than 190 countries arguing over the barriers for new pact to slow global warming .

Draft text of the new pact , which was released at the last day , which is scheduled for a two -week conference in Warsaw , only gives vague guidance on when countries should submit their targets limit carbon emissions . It is a key element of the agreement should be approved in Paris in 2015.

Although the EU and U.S. urged to clear deadline for the announcement of the target , it simply calls the draft text , the commitment should be brought " long before '' the Paris summit . U.S. envoy Todd Stern called for " a more assertive language '' so that there is progress in the negotiations .

The European Union would like to express its targets in 2014 and U.S. eyeing early 2015 to allow time for the review process before the Paris summit . But some countries , including China, the world's biggest carbon polluters , are reluctant to set a deadline .

The Chinese delegation Liu Zhenmin said China should not be expected to reduce emissions at the same level as industrialized countries , which builds its economy with fossil fuels .
