Philippine town mayor shot dead in airport
A number of armed men shot and killed a mayor and three others in the capital city of the Philippines, Manila, Friday, authorities said.
The death toll is Ukol Talumpa, the Mayor of one town called Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur province.
In addition to the Talumpa, three passengers were killed and four others injured, said the airport's Manager, Jose Honrado.
Talumpa with his family was waiting to board a plane out of the airport terminal when gunmen approached and shot him at close range, said Honrado.
"We are still investigating the motive of the murder," he said.
Relatives of mayors declined to comment.
Gunmen wearing police uniforms, it, fled by motorcycle.
The shooting incident also makes the tourists raced to save themselves, reports Reuters.
The name Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport, taken from the name of a leading opposition politician Benigno Aqunio, who was shot to death there in 1983 when he arrived in the Philippines from exile himself.
His wife Corozon Aquino was elected President after that, and now his son, also named Benigno Aqunio, became President of the Philippines.
