These pictures are a collection of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland ( RCAHMS ) .
RCAHMS communications manager , James Crawford , said : " Technology may have changed , but selfie already quite long . "
" We think selfie is one event in modern life - fueled by social media , " said Crawford .

The technique may be growing , but selfie not new , experts said .
" But when you see the archives of history , ranging from painting to photography early days , it was clear that the people are always keen to record and share pictures of themselves . "

The word has evolved from the term in the social media to express terms of photos taken by ourselves, our editor says .
