Ukrainian Opposition Protests Face and Pro - Government Activists
Ukrainian Opposition leaders called for a massive protest on Sunday ( 15/12 ) , while supporters of President Viktor Yanukovych also plan a counter rally at a location only a kilometer from the site of anti - government demonstrators .
The Ukrainian opposition members hold direct talks with President Yanukovych on Friday ( 13/12 ) for the first time in more than three weeks of anti - government demonstrations .
But opposition leaders that came out of that meeting , which included representatives of political and other community , said the president failed to meet their demands .
Udar Party chief , Vitaly Klitschko and the other main opposition leader whom called for the release of detained protesters .
President Yanukovych has proposed amnesty for those arrested during the demonstration . But it was not enough for the opposition parties who demanded Yanukovych government retreated and disbanded .
America's leading Senator John McCain , Republican , and Chris Murphy , a Democrat who chairs the Senate subcommittee on Europe , will visit Ukraine on Sunday to hold talks with government officials , the opposition and civil society leaders . ( VOA )
