BPS : 2013 inflation at 8.38 percent
Central Statistics Agency ( BPS ) recorded inflation rate reached 0.55 percent in December 2013 so that the inflation rate of calendar year 2013 and on an annual basis ( yoy ) stood at 8.38 percent .
While the core components of inflation reached 0.45 percent in December and a core component of inflation ( yoy ) 4.98 percent , BPS Chief Suryamin on Thursday .
He says December inflation higher than November's inflation recorded 0.12 percent . " The inflation rate is not too different from last year , " said Suryamin .
Suryamin explain the inflation rate in December 2013 , almost the same as in December 2012 that inflation stood at 0.54 per cent and inflation of 0.57 percent in December 2011 .
" This means the government managed to make an effort to hold down prices and inflation towards the end of the year , " he said .
Suryamin added component of general inflation in December 2013 accounted for 0.55 percent share , followed by 0.27 per cent core inflation , the government regulated price inflation of 0.1 percent and 0.18 percent volatile prices .
Meanwhile , based on expenditure groups , foodstuffs accounted for the largest share of inflation of 0.2 percent followed by food, beverages , cigarettes and tobacco 0.12 percent and transportation, communication and financial services 0.1 percent .
" The food category still play a major role , since the end of the year there was a feast of Christmas and New Year celebrations , but in general still well controlled , " said Suryamin .
Then the housing, water , electricity , gas and fuel , clothing , health and education, recreation and sport each accounted for inflation of 0.01 percent .
Suryamin added , from 66 cities Consumer Price Index ( CPI ) as many as 61 cities experienced inflation in December and only recorded five cities accounted for deflation .
" The highest inflation was in Manado, at 2.69 percent , the lowest inflation in Tangerang Palembang and 0.04 percent respectively . While high deflation occurred at Mulberry 0.44 percent , " he said .
