Bill Gates: Artificial intelligence is a threat to
humanity
Bill Gates said that artificial intelligence is a threat
to humanity
Bill Gates said that the human race should worry about
the threat posed by artificial intelligence (AI).
The founder of Microsoft, it said artificial intelligence
can be developed rapidly and he was amazed by people who are not disturbed by
their presence.
Gates statement is contrary to one of Microsoft's
research chief, Eric Horvitz, who says he does not see this as a threat
artificial intelligence that is "fundamental."
Horvitz said a quarter of its employees focus with
artificial intelligence.
In a question and answer session on the Reddit website,
Gates wrote: "I am concerned with super intelligence. First, the machine
will do a lot of work for us and we become intelligent. Therefore, machine
intelligence will be a positive thing if we manage it properly.
"I agree with Elon Musk and a few others that, after
decades of intelligence topics will still be a concern. But I do not understand
why most other people do not care about this.
Prof Hawking said he felt that the machine with
artificial intelligence could be "the end of mankind".
Horvitz said: "There is a long-term concern that we
would lose control of some kind of intelligence. Basically I think it will not
happen." (BBC)
