Indonesian government policy to execute convicted drug
from various countries judged not contribute to image formation President Joko
Widodo as a formidable leader abroad, said an analyst from Australia.
Dave McRae, a senior researcher at the Asian Institute of
the University of Melbourne, assessing the Indonesian government-through action
of the execution of six death row cases of drug-wanted to show that President
Joko Widodo is a firm figure and immediately took action.

in Indonesia alone. While abroad execution step is actually criticized for
ineffectiveness violated human rights.

inconsistency
McRae also notice inconsistencies between policies
Indonesia-where Indonesia actively advocate for citizens who face the death
penalty abroad, including in the case of drug-with the execution of convicted
drug action.
However, the view was ignored international law
professor, University of Indonesia, Hikmahanto Heilbron. According to him,
those two things separate.
"When there are people who have to undergo the death
penalty in Indonesia, the context is that we want to enforce the law in
Indonesia's sovereign territory. While when we requested that our citizens are
exposed to the death penalty not to be subjected to the death penalty, it is in
the context of the state's obligation to protect its citizens, "said
Hikmahanto.
disturbed
The question whether the relationship between Indonesia
and Australia will be disrupted if the Indonesian government executes convicted
Australian drug cases, McRae rate it depends on public reaction.
He pointed out how the Indonesian government is much more
active in advocating for its own citizens abroad who face the death penalty
after a strong reaction of Indonesian society because labor furious woman named
Ruyati bint Supubi beheaded in Saudi Arabia in 2011.
"I think the same thing could happen in
Australia-that any Australian government's intention to maintain a good
relationship, but they also have to answer the Australian public reaction if
they protest over the actions taken by the Indonesian government," said
McRae.
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop refused to
answer whether he would pull the Ambassador of Australia if the execution of
two of its citizens held by the Indonesian government.
