Petro Poroshenko was inaugurated as president of Ukraine, and he is expected to stop the deadly fighting in the east of the country.
Click the 48-year-old conglomerate received messages of support from the West, after his victory in the elections last May 25.
On Friday he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said the move could start a dialogue.
Kiev accused Moscow protect separatists in the east, a claim denied by the Kremlin.
Poroshenko inaugurated with the presence of dozens of foreign envoys, including U.S. Vice President Joe Biden at the parliament building in the capital Kiev.
Russia was represented by its ambassador home drawn by Moscow after President Viktor Yanukovych, who is seen by many as pro-Russian, was ousted in February.
Poroshenko, Roshen chocolate group owner, and is expected to soon implement a program to end the crisis that has been going on for months.
While the battle continues in Ukraine. The BBC's Steve Rosenberg in Donetsk said that there have been numerous reports of gunfire in the rebel headquarters in Sloviansk and Mariupol. BBC
