In addition to releasing the Corruption Perceptions Index
2014 report on Tuesday (2/12), Transparency International also initiated a new
initiative "unmask the Corrupt" or "uncover Actors
Corruption" which mention some names of famous people in the world,
including Tommy.
WASHINGTON DC-
Transparency International, the world body which seeks to
stop corruption, encourage transparency, accountability and integrity in all
walks of life, on Tuesday night (2/12) released its annual report 2014
Corruption Perceptions Index.
The annual report is an evaluation of corruption in the
public sector is usually a kind of warning for countries included in the
ranking of most corrupt countries in the world, related to their seriousness in
fighting corruption.
Corruption Perception Index this year states Denmark, New
Zealand, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland as the most free of corruption.
America - along with Hong Kong, Ireland and Barbados - in order to 17. While
Singapore is the only country in Asia that into 10 major categories of the most
corruption-free country. Then what about Indonesia ?.
In the Corruption Perceptions Index 2014, Indonesia is on
the order of 107. A little better than last year, in which Indonesia is on the
order of 114.
Transparency International's Senior Director of Policy
and Government Accountability Daniel Dudis praised Indonesia's efforts to
combat corruption. He considered since the beginning of the new government
under Joko Widodo has shown the seriousness of combating corruption involving
the Corruption Eradication Commission Commission to evaluate candidates for
cabinet ministers.
"I think the election of Joko Widodo is a positive
step. When he became governor of Jakarta, he has made anti-corruption as a
major issue, and of course we hope he will continue to do it now. Evidently
when he will appoint his cabinet, he involves the Commission to ensure that
people who are not involved in corruption cases designee. Some people rejected
the Commission and Joko Widodo then elect new people. I guess Joko Widodo
really shows its commitment to eradicate corruption, "said Daniel.
However, Daniel Dudis also hastened to add that in fact
still a lot that can be done Indonesia to increase efforts to combat
corruption. Although not named names or specific bodies, these bodies also
initiated a new initiative "unmask the Corrupt" or "uncover
Actors Corruption".
This new initiative to invite each country to take legal
action against the criminals who come into a country, opened its stealth and
then commit money laundering or other criminal acts of corruption. Legal steps
that can be done, among others, refuse visas, refused opening bank accounts,
and report to the local legal entities.
"Actors uncover corruption" is a new initiative
that began last fall, referring to the international banking system and the
recognition that corruption is a problem the world. We can not just criticize
the country. We need a global criticized him. "Actors uncover
corruption" Transparency International is an initiative to fight
kleptocracy. Put simply we want to encourage the recording of wealth around the
world. So we know who is behind a particular company, asset tracking and
identifying assets stolen by government officials. Transparency International
encourages a state to refuse a visa. We can see how the kleptocrats or theft of
public money often traveled to Paris and to go shopping, or go to America and
buy property. We want to say "hey you can not do that anymore. You can not
come to our country and do that? ". In fact the US government has recently
informed six Hungarian officials that they could not come to America for
alleged corruption. We want to see more countries do things like this,
"added Daniel.
Transparency International also pointed out the existence
of a building in Delaware which is the address for 285 thousand companies
stealth. Armed with these addresses, people who claim to be "business
person" was then able to open a bank account, receive and spend money or
buy property and other luxury items such as yachts and cars.
In the site "unmask the Corrupt" or
"uncover Actors Corruption", the first figure is an example of
"business person" as it is the son of former president Soeharto -
Tommy Suharto. "Tommy" the call, allegedly involved in corruption
cases worth 800 million dollars and can freely spend abroad.
Thanks to his friends in the Bahamas and the Virgin
Islands - two places where someone could open a company without giving the
address or name the company owner - Tommy without any difficulty can be set up
phantom companies. According to the website "unmask the Corrupt"
managed by Transparency International that, until 1998 only Tommy had a four
million dollars worth of hunting in New Zealand, holds a 75% stake in a manager
of the famous golf courses in the UK and is listed as the owner of a factory
stock car Lamborghini worth 40 million dollars.
According to Transparency International, Suharto could
have been knocked out of power in May 1998, but only one month after his
resignation that no bank account opened at a British bank in the island of
Guernsey in the name of Tommy. The account remains open even though Tommy was
convicted of corruption 11 million dollars a few years later, the decision was
changed at the level of the appeals court. Only after Tommy was jailed for
convicted of ordering the killings of justices Syafiuddin Kartasasmita in 200,
a bank in the United Kingdom refused to disburse $ 40 million of accounts
Tommy.
Tommy did deny having an account that has now been frozen
it. He also denied having stealth company in the Bahamas and the Virgin
Islands, the ownership of shares in a hunt in New Zealand, stock golf courses
in the UK or in the factory stock car Lamborghini. But suspicions remain and
only a little money from the corruption that is actually returned to the
Indonesian government.
In addition to calling Tommy Suharto, the site
"unmask the Corrupt" or "uncover Actors Corruption" also
mentions several other names, such as the former governor of Delta state in
Nigeria - James Ibori, the former leader of Tunisia - Zine Al Abidin Ben Ali
and his family, as well as the former mayor Sao Paolo - Paulo Maluf.
Transparency International based in Berlin invites all
parties undertake serious efforts to combat corruption are assessed not only
harm the people but also undermine the government. (VOA)
