Cameroon frees 24 hostages Boko Haram, Chad send
thousands of troops
Cameroon military says at least 24 hostages who were
arrested by the militant group Boko Haram has been released.
Military spokesman Col. Didier Badjeck told reporters on
Monday (19/1), the army rescue the hostages when they pursue militants in
northern Cameroon. News media reports indicate at least some of the hostages
escaped or deliberately released.
Boko Haram still hold between 30 to 50 people who were
kidnapped Sunday in cross-border attacks from Nigeria.
Officials said the group burned about 80 homes and killed
several people in an attack on the village Mabass.
Saturday, Chad sent thousands of troops to Cameroon to
help fight against Boko Haram. Islamic extremist group that has become a
regional threat, after five years of revolt in northern Nigeria. (VOA)
