Apostasy occurred, number of Muslims Descending
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Chairman of Muhammadiyah,
Yunahar Ilyas alarming number of Indonesian Muslims are increasingly years

of Muslims in Indonesia has greatly decreased," said Yunahar when

According to the statistical records of religious
ministry, Yunahar revealed, the number of Muslims currently about 207 million
of the total population of 250 million people.
Means, he said, the number of Muslims in Indonesia, only
about 83 percent. Though the post-independence era, the population of Indonesia
is 95 percent Muslim.
Therefore, Yunahar said, the government needs to examine
seriously decrease the one cause that is apostasy.
He also highlighted the problem of apostasy as seen from
the video that circulated on November 3. Videos uploaded through YouTube is
shown to occur in the process of apostasy Car Free Day event in Jakarta.
Yunahar said, the spread of religious conversion attempts
can be classified into crime. However, so far there are no rules and provisions
governing the spread of such action.
Basically, Yunahar explained, every religion has a
mission to spread the religion. However, it is not justified to deployment in a
way that is not true.
For example, he pointed out, relief assistance to

Yunahar estimates, if the issue of apostasy is not
considered, then in 50 years Muslims will not be an absolute majority in
Indonesia.
