said.

to increase trade and investment as the engine driving the economy. In this

Summit Asia-Africa (abbreviated Asian-African Summit or
KAA; sometimes also called the Bandung Conference) is a conference between the
countries of Asia and Africa, most of whom had just gained independence. KAA
hosted by Indonesia, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon),
India and Pakistan and co-ordinated by the Indonesian Foreign Minister Sunario.
This meeting took place between 18 April-24 April, 1955, at Gedung Merdeka,
Bandung, Indonesia with the aim of promoting economic and cultural cooperation
Asia-Africa and against colonialism or neocolonialism United States, the Soviet
Union or other imperialist countries.
A total of 29 countries representing more than half the
total population of the world at that time send representatives. This
conference reflects what they view as the unwillingness of Western powers to
consult with them on decisions affecting Asia during the Cold War; their
concerns about the tensions between the People's Republic of China and the
United States; their desire to spread the foundation for a peaceful
relationship between them and China with the West; their opposition to
colonialism, especially French influence in North Africa and the French
colonial rule in Algeria; Indonesia and the desire to promote their rights in
conflict with the Netherlands over West Irian.
Ten points were the result of this meeting is then

"a statement of support for the riots and the cooperation of the

To commemorate fifty years since the historic meeting,
the Heads of State of Asian countries and Africa have been invited to attend a
new meeting in Bandung and Jakarta between April 19 to 24, 2005. Part of the
meeting was held at the Merdeka Building, the location of a long meeting on 50
years ago. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan also attended the meeting.
Asia-Africa Summit 2005 produces NAASP (New Asian-African Strategic
Partnership, the Asian-African Strategic Partnership New), which is expected to
bring Asia and Africa toward a better future based on collective self-reliance
and to ensure an international environment for the interests of the peoples of
Asia and Africa.
